Aventine is a family owned Italian restaurant with a large interior dining space that opens up to a huge patio bar and lounge.
The client wanted the space to feel earthy , warm and cozy. Creative but not too over the top. We wanted people to experience the smells, sounds and to visually interact with the entire food process.
Our goal was to design the project in a very straight forward way. For example, we left the existing 50 year old ceiling beams entirely exposed and used” beat up” pine flooring planks for the entire interior/exterior space. We then added an eclectic mix of contemporary, traditional and rustic elements including a collection of found objects. Some of these items included refurbished chairs, “thrift store” artwork, utilitarian lighting and random decorative “nick knacks”. We designed a large “feature” bar with ornate crown molding and traditional stiles and rails. We also designed an “old school” food counter with a utilitarian product display above the food prep area.
The transition to the outside was through a “glass paneled” custom garage door that opened up the entire wall. The exterior patio was designed as a sexy, intimate garden environment. We planted two huge Olive trees and wrapped them in “filament bulb” string lights. We designed a wood plank bar with lift up antique window panels that open up to the customer. We layered the patio with a mix of seating clusters, community tables and added an antique fire feature.
