Salvatores had been a family owned Italian restaurant in San Diego for generations. The existing space had tons of traditional columns, intricate crown moldings and “old school” detailing. When hired to do a complete re-design, the goal was to create a “funky” contemporary version of the original space . Rather than get rid of the intricate architectural detailing, the Davis-Ink team decided to preserve and incorporate this into our new design. We introduced contemporary/ custom lighting features, furniture and artwork. The goal was to create a bizarre mix of contemporary modern with traditional. We entirely replaced all of the lighting, flooring, millwork fixtures and soffits. In addition we created a completely new speak easy space for private parties and special events. Some of the very cool features include garden interior cabanas with bust sculpture lined low walls, a new bar soffit with funky custom graphics on the ceiling. A secret corridor wrapped with backlit framed photos on the ceiling , walls and doors. We also added tons of unexpected color combinations as abstract art on the walls and ceilings. The goal was to create a warm comfortable cozy environment filled with surprising WTF features. We are super pleased with the results and are proud to keep the Salvatores name as well as key original parts of the architecture.
