Design Concept: This was a very special project for us. Our client is a very special person, local surfer, and a community oriented business owner who wanted to build everything himself and to be incredibly involved with the entire project. The goal was to create a permanent fixture in the iconic Mission Beach, CA scene. We wanted to create a beachy, surfer vibe but not in your typical, predictable, cliché approach. This was about real surfers and the people who live in the community.
Project Description: We wanted to create custom wallpaper based on newspaper articles, and our client took this and ran with it. The end product was a collage of faux articles incorporating the owner, his family and friends and the people who were special making this project come to life. One of our key features was the main bar soffit, which was constructed almost entirely out of natural driftwood. This was not a product that we purchased from a manufacturer. Instead, we built the soffit with driftwood that was hand picked poision oak and all, from a river-mouth in Tijuana, Mexico. Everything here was the real deal. Other items would be the back bar made out of raw steel frame and surfboard fin backing. The front of the bar consisted of different colored layers of local sand. We designed a custom sculptural plumbing pipe chandelier that our client’s father built himself. Leftover surfboard fins were used to create a custom backlit acrylic central light feature. The outside railing and the bar top were made from real local boat wood that needed to be dried out and sealed with epoxy to preserve all of its natural beauty.

What made this job so special is that everything was built from the heart with soul and integrity. A rare gem!
